We are proud to offer GSA players the most comprehensive Winter program of any travel club in the area. We have set up a schedule that allows every player the opportunity participate in skills practices and winter league games. Our teams take huge steps forward in the winter months. Last year, 75% of our travel players participated in our winter skills training. This is an essential part of our curriculum and the reason for our success in the Spring season.

Winter Soccer FAQ's and Comments

I am worried about my child getting burnt out if they play soccer all year round, won't it be too much?

The North East of America is the only place in the world where soccer is played in 10 week seasons. The game of soccer is regularly played in 40 week seasons over the rest of the world and kids don't get burnt out. It's actually quite the opposite. The players here who flirt with soccer playing for just 10 weeks and then taking 4 months off are the ones who quickly lose interest because they don't get good enough to feel confident in the sport. Those who play regularly throughout the year develop a greater passion and enjoyment for soccer and go on to play longer.

Armonk Indoor is too far away!

It's 25 minutes from the furthest point in Greenwich. For many, it's actually closer than Havemeyer. Those in central Greenwich usually set up car pools so they only drive once per month, that's just 5 times all winter! We are very fortunate to have a facility like this for our players to train. The benefits of the turf are well worth any drive.

The Armonk programs are more expensive!

This is why........... you are paying for a heated facility and a turf field plus it's a 17 week season and you will get every session, no rain-outs. We have kept the fees to the absolute bare minimum because we want everyone to play. All fees go to the turf rental and coaching, there is no financial gain for GSA from these programs.

We like to ski in the winter so we can't do the leagues.

The leagues are actually set up to accommodate the moderate skiers. Games are scheduled for two weeks and then a weekend off all the way through peak ski season. There are at least 4 weeks off in January, February and March.

We saw a cheaper winter program advertised in Greenwich, why shouldn't we just do that?

Quality. You get what you pay for. If you are going to make the commitment to winter soccer why wouldn't you want to make sure it was worthwhile. The GSA winter progrsam is the best in the area. We had a few players who did an alternative program last winter and the coaches could not notice any improvement in their footskills when they came back in the Spring, it was very frustrating to us. We have a vested interest in using every minute of every session to make our players better. This is why we take the time to build a curriculum and plan every session. Your player will show a huge improvement in their footskills after the GSA winter program. Some of the other programs are also operating without insurance, GSA has insurance and every coach is certified.
